SPRUCE UP THE PLACE WITH A ROCK WATERFALL

A rock waterfall is a great amenity to add to your home and garden. If you're a nature lover than you can't resist the relaxing sights, sounds and scents of a real rushing waterfall just a short walking distance away. How do you get started in building a rock waterfall?

Getting Started
In planning to build a rock waterfall there are two structures you are actually designing. The pool itself, in which the water is falling into, and the cascading structure that makes the waterfall. The first thing you need? Of course, plenty of big rocks! Many homeowners have access to rocks on their own property, though rocks can usually be found anywhere. (Construction sites, near rivers and so forth)

After the rocks are set up to create the cascading block, you will need a pump device to keep recirculating the water from the pond to the top of your waterfall. The primary considerations when choosing a pump is in GPH (gallons per hour) and in maximum height. Other supplies you will need including tubing that will run from the pump to the top of the waterfall, as well as a large pot to house the tubing, pond liner, a carpenter's level, a garden hose, sand and a shovel.

Finding The Right Numbers
Ideally, you should look for about 30 rocks if you can find that many. You can use rocks of different shapes and sizes but at least a few large and flat rocks are recommended for the creation of a rock waterfall. Flat rocks are easier to stabilize and thus will make your job much easier. When it comes to pumps, do not choose one more powerful than the capacity of your pond. Usually a pump should move about half of your pond's volume per hour. 120 GPH is plenty for small ponds.

A rock waterfall is a great way to improve your garden's sights and sounds. Relax and enjoy the scenery of your own home.
